The fourth quarter dawned with Stone Bridge High School trailing the host Broad Run Spartans by a 9-6 score April 5 in Ashburn. That’s when the Bulldogs’ big junior midfielder Matt Vincent simply took over the boys lacrosse game.
Vincent delivered one goal with a big wind-up from the slot. Twenty-two seconds later, he found the net again with a hard charge from a nearly impossible angle.
Two minutes after that, he tied the game by knocking in his own rebound, swiping at the ball while lying prone on the ground. He tallied again a minute later with a hard side-winder from the point—and yet again three minutes thereafter, spinning around a defender and switching hands to put it in lefty.
In all, Vincent was the only player on either team to register a goal for the first 8:51 of the final quarter, helping to will his team to an 11-10 victory on the home field of their intra-Ashburn rivals.
