In regular-season play earlier this year, Madison High School's Boys Lacrosse team saw a 4-1 lead disappear in their 8-7 loss to West Springfield. Though it appeared that Madison was poised to flip the script in Tuesday's first round Northern Region tournament game, a short-lived Warhawk rally never fully materialized in a 12-4 defeat that was much closer than the score would indicate.
After a delay for inclement weather at Madison's fields pushed the opening faceoff back about 30 minutes, West Springfield came out hot, capitalizing on several unforced errors by Madison. That kept Spartans goalie Kevin Young at ease, and the Warhawks managed just one first half goal from Nick Gabriel on the man advantage.
