Loudoun Valley?s fast start in the second half was answered by an even faster finish by W.T. Woodson, and the Vikings fell 13-10 in a Virginia AA/AAA girls? lacrosse semifinal game June 8 at Westfield High School. Valley?s season comes to an end with a 17-3 record, champions of the Cedar Run District and the Northwest Region. ?It was a good season. I think we prepared nicely,? Loudoun Valley coach Jay Harkey assessed. A nip-and-tuck affair led to a 5-5 halftime deadlock, with the Vikings grabbing momentum with a pair of goals in the last 17 seconds of the half. The second of those two tallies, put in with a mere half-second left, was a pretty play by midfielder Ellen Fuller. Moving without the ball, the sophomore charged the net and was found by attacker Caitlin Khosla, who lobbed it toward her. On the run, Fuller reached above her head to collect it and swipe it low into the net with a single motion. Valley took advantage of that momentum, putting in five straight after halftime for a 10-6 lead, the largest either team would enjoy.
