Playing lacrosse is both a contact sport for boys and a skill sport for boys and girls requiring special equipment. Boys players require a helmet, mouth piece, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves and a lacrosse stick. Girls players require goggles, mouth piece and a lacrosse stick. Goalies for both boys and girls require goalie specific equipment including helmets, chest protection, arm pads, gloves and for girls leg padding as well. This can be an expensive venture if you are not aware of what is available to you, especially for first time players.
EQUIPMENT RENTALS
For youth players who play in the
Northern Virginia Youth League (NVYLL) your clubs will provide equipment for players usually for a small rental fee and/or deposit. This is a good way for the younger players to try the sport without spending a lot of money. Usually they will provide the padding and helmets but not the sticks....so typically you still have to purchase a stick/head combination for your player. If your player is going to participate in the off season leagues and/or the select teams, equipment is not provided by them. Some of the NVYLL clubs will let you keep equipment rented to be used for summer and fall league/tournament participation...you will need to contact them for that information.
